Thursday January 19 – Today will be a quiet and mild day with sunshine. We start this morning with temperatures in the 40s, warmer than a normal afternoon, and highs should reach back into the 50s. The next system will arrive tomorrow with rain hitting Washington DC during the morning and lasting into the afternoon for the Presidential inauguration. That will make nearly one million visitors wet and chilly. The next weather event will arrive Sunday and last into next week with even heavier rain. As we turn the corner to the last part of January, the weather pattern will turn colder. By the end of the week and into next month, we should get back to normal winter cold. Here’s the latest:

Rainfall Expectation

Any thought of drought or low reservoir levels will be diminished after these systems move through. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain can be expected by next week.

Outlook:

The flip of the jet stream will be initially noticed by the stormy west that will turn mild and dry.  The cold and stormy pattern will shift to the east and should hold much more winter for us as we head into February
