Sunday December 18 – This may come as a surprise to many, but temperature have jumped into the 50s this morning. The cold air dam broke and warm air flooded in. Baltimore’s BWI at 2 AM was 34°F, then at 3 AM it reported 54°F… a jump of 20 degrees in one hour! Looking at the temperate breakdown across the northern US you can see a large region near or below zero. These are actual temperatures, NOT wind chills. Wow!!! The core of the cold air will not fully impact us, but we will get back below freezing again.

We went up 20 degrees in one hour… Plan for a drop down nearly 30 degrees across the Ravens game!

We could see come 60s this morning,  then a crash back below freezing tonight. This all our part of the massive storm crossing the US.  If you go to the Ravens game, be prepared for the rain and dramatic drop in temperatures. The reverse of fortune will bring a drop of 20 degrees or more from tailgating to the 4th quarter when temps drop from the lower60s to near 40°F

Here is a look locally with a timeline of how this will play out. Note: If you have been tracking the model performance with me over the past week, the Canadian GEM did a much better job with the ice, and again on the back end. It did NOT have snow for us, but the GFS which warmed us faster yesterday continues to show snow today. We shall see, but it looks less likely.
