Sunday November 20 – The monster cold front we had yesterday meant business and today you will feel the cold winds for sure. Baltimore’s BWI went from a high of 73F to the lower 30s with a 51 mph wind gusts. Today will be a struggle to get to the 40s. In fact the wind speed may exceed the numbers on the thermometer as a strong pressure gradient and daily mixing of the air combine to peak this afternoon. Wind Advisory: Winds should be in the 30 to 45 mph range, with gusts to 55 mph. A High Wind Warning on the mountain tops to our west mean gusts to 65 mph, and that comes with snow.
Snow Advisory continues with another few inches on Wisp, Snowshoe, and 7 Springs. The upper level flow and instability supports flurries reaching central Maryland again, even if it doesn’t show up on the models. I am still at Snowshoe, WV where temps are in the teens and wind chill is below zero with a lot of snow. I will have a love report on my Facebook page before 10 AM. It is hard to tell from here how much snow fell since it is blowing around so much. But I think we did get close to the expected 6 inches with another 2 to 4 on the top of the mountain possible.

Snow West And Flurries Carry East
The models don’t always do a great job showing the progress of flurries since the moisture is so low. But the upper level support seen here in the jet stream vorticity shows the flow will help carry snow showers over the mountains into south central PA and central Maryland.

Temps will modify, but a definite pattern change will make it feel more like late November. The next threat of rain will arrive Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. So part of Thanksgiving might be wet, with an improvement in the afternoon.
