Wednesday August 31 – The weather map is as active as the chatter of the weather with respect for schools in Maryland. Today is the day Governor Hogan is expected to announce his intentions to push state schools start date after Labor Day due to the heat and impact on tourism. Today will be another hot day that will challenge the continuously changing policy for Baltimore County schools. Meanwhile, fog has delayed schools on the Eastern Shore. All this and we watch a cold front for late day showers, then Tropical Depression Nine will be close enough this weekend to stir up the waves off of the beaches… and may be even closer.
Temps and Heat Index
Here is the HRRR Model forecast for 1 PM conditions with Baltimore highlighted. It looks like the Heat Index will be above 90°F by 1 PM

Tropical Concerns
This is something worth watching…. The GFS Model is only one plot, but it shows Tropical Depression Nine as a tropical storm or hurricane this weekend and turning the corner up the coast. I will not show that model at this time because it differs so much from the tropical model plots. But the forecast is shifting farther north.
The system will be close enough to send strong waves along the coast and keep swimmers out of the water at area beaches this weekend.
Forecast Tracks:
Tropical Depression Eight
This is expected to move off the coast with no impact
