Summer Heat Flips To Fall By End Of Next Week

Summer Heat Flips To Fall By End Of Next Week

Saturday August 27 – Since we still have a week until Labor Day and just starting the weekend, the good news here is that summer heat will prevail, but we have taken some of the humidity out of the air. In short, it will feel better form the pool to the beach, or even hiking to a local waterfall.

So, without much to talk about, there are actually two things I do want to share with you. First is about duration of our heat and flip to fall, at least for a few days at the end of next week.  Then a look at the false tropical hype this past week.

Summer Heat Then Fall Flip Next Week

As we continue to bake, I want to point out that we will NOT be challenging any records in Baltimore. A substantial heat wave developed 68 years ago in 1948 that will be tough to ellipse. Check out these records:

  • August 26: 101°F
  • August 27: 102°F
  • August 28: 101°F

All we have to look at are the lower 90s for a few days.  This slider shows the upper air pattern holding into the middle of next week. Then a trough in eastern Canada will send cooler air our way by Thursday  into the start of the holiday weekend. The outlook for Labor Day is a return back to warmer temps.

Screen Shot2016-08-27 07_28_20A lot of people have asked me about the the ‘triple threat’ that was pushed (not by me) earlier this week. This morning’s satellite and analysis from the National Hurricane Center shows that impulse that was a risk to south Florida has been diminished to a 20% chance for development this weekend. But there is still a 40% chance over the next 5 days.

A few other areas area scattered from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic. All of these are rather tame. The only named storm is Gaston, a tropical storm and well out in the open Atlantic.
