Challenging A Record High With Risk Of Severe Storms

Challenging A Record High With Risk Of Severe Storms

Screen Shot2016-07-25 07_11_15Monday July 25 – This morning at 7  AM, the temperature at BWI was 79°F which is 5 degrees warmer that the same time on Sunday. On that pace, temps should reach the upper 90s to near 100°F.  If we hit that mark, it would tie the record set in 2010.  That is only part of the story today. With high heat, comes high energy and there will be a source for storms to form this afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has the target of slight risk of severe storms for our region. The main threat will be locally heavy rain and gusty winds reaching over 60 mph. With high heat can come incredible lightning. Natural fireworks will slam Phildelphia that could impact protests and convention attendees, but we will get our action by the evening.

Here is a look at the radar simulation and potential record breaking temperatures. At leas the Heat Index will be the highest of this stretch today.

Should severe storms develop, please note that a Watch means is it possible and would be issued for many hours. A Warning means a storm is in progress and being tracked… usually for the next 45 minutes.
