Severe Storm Risk Kicks Off July Then A Quiet Weekend

Screen Shot2016-07-01 06_39_44July 1 – Today will feel a little more humid and a little more typical of summer. But this will be short lived as a strong cold front will be swinging through this afternoon. With that, the chance of storms has increased and the Storm Prediction Center now has our region with a Slight Risk of severe storms this afternoon. That means some of the storms will build to have winds of 60 mph, large hail 1 inch in diameter, or even an isolated tornado. If you are traveling, the core of the energy will be to our north, in the Poconos and metro New York City. The timing for the storms to develop will be after 2 PM, and we will watch the prime action between 4PM and 7 PM.

Below is a look at the timeline. It should be noted that rain will arrive this morning in southern Maryland and reach the beaches by noon. Most of this weekend will be quiet, cooler, and pleasant. But on July 4th, there will be a cluster of storms that may reach parts of the region by evening. See more below
