Tropical Storm And Rain Impact For Memorial Day

Saturday May 28- There is already enough trouble across the US with severe storms in the heartland and flooding in Texas with rain measured in feet. But during the holiday weekend we have the development of a tropical storm to watch across the southeast coast. Then the storm may stall and wander up the coast for much of next week. So the pass by Ocean City may wait, but there is a sign a surge of rain will arrive on Memorial Day and the building risk of rip currents.

The risk of thunderstorms today will be isolated as we get near 90°F one more time. But humidity will increase and storms will be more widespread Sunday and Monday. Before showing the forecast maps, I need to add the caveat that there are subtle impulses in the atmosphere that are subject to change, so the focus of the heavy storms could shift a little. The way is plays out now suggest a possible improvement for central Maryland on Monday afternoon, but wet weather may linger at the beaches throughout Memorial Day.

Tropical Storm Bonnie?

The main threat will be across South Carolina. Winds are currently 35 mph, and it is moving to the northwest at 14 mph. There is a Tropical Storm Warning for South Caroline as this should barely reach the minimal wind speed of 40 mph this weekend. If so, this storm will be named Bonnie and be the seventh May tropical system since 1980. But that does not mean an active season ahead. The National Hurricane Center shows the storm weakening as it wanders up the North Carolina coast. But heavy rain could spread well ahead of the storm.
