Memorial Weekend Weather And Possible Tropical Storm

Memorial Weekend Weather And Possible Tropical Storm

May 27 2016 – The good news today for graduation at the Naval Academy and other area schools is that the threat of rain or thunderstorm is low. The bad news for some is that the heat should match what he had yesterday with increased humidity. So you may be sweating out there. This morning’s low temperature is an indication as BWI dropped to only 69°F at 6 AM. That is warmer than most afternoons this month. The summer like weather will be with us all weekend, and so with the risk of isolated storms, that will be hard to pin down. I have timelines below as suggestions, and also the increased chance for a new tropical storm off of the coast.

Thunderstorms? Todays best risk looks to be in the mountains west of Washington and southern Pennsylvania.

Heat Today

Looks like our second 90-degree day of the year.

Tropical Storm?

The National Hurricane Center now puts an 80% chance of this system off of the coast to develop to a tropical storm this weekend. If so, it would actually be the second one this year (there was Alex in the central Atlantic in January). This would be named Bonnie.

Memorial Weekend Timeline For Showers –> slider

If you vacation in the mountains, the risk will be highest, but these types of showers usually last less than one hour. The increased onshore flow will build more humidity, clouds, and risk of showers Memorial Day Monday… even if these maps don’t show it that well.

Ocean Water Temp

It is still chilly off Ocean City, Maryland. So no threat of tropical weather. But the moisture will fill in with onshore winds.  Notice the Gulf Stream river of near 80°F water
