Rain: On Edge Today But Still A Hit For Preakness

Rain: On Edge Today But Still A Hit For Preakness

Wednesday May 18 – The rain will continue to be lit up with a band of rain today, but an threatening band will spend most of the day in southern PA with the edge between Rt 30 and I-81 then extending back in the mountains of western Maryland. This is dependent on the winds and some showers will push closer to central Maryland in the evening. So some after school sports will have to watch this closely. This weekend however, weddings and Preakness plans will be impacted by a larger storm. The good news (for now) has been the adjustment of track. See more below.

Improvement:

Thursday and Friday should show more sunshine.

The modeling has shown a faster moving storm with a track south of Maryland. I want to caution you as this GFS model has a tendency with winter storms to wobble the track in this time period before the event. Instead of stalling, it now looks to move well off the coast, but a cool wind will develop some showers again Sunday afternoon.

Temperature Outlook

Depending on the storm track, there is a chance Baltimore temps stay in the 50s on Saturday. If so, that would set a brand new record for cool May days. But that promised warm up appears to still be on track next week.
