Wednesday May 11 – Say it ain’t snow! As dreary as it has been, this weather pattern might really push its limits over the next few days. In addition to almost three weeks of cool, damp weather… Baltimore is on the verge of a cold record and that is NOT the big story. So far we have had 6 days with highs in the 50s. That is the first time in 20 years for May. The coldest May was in 1882 with 7 days below 60°F, and we could very well hit that Sunday. The thing is, that very same day might bring snow to western Maryland. For the record, the latest snow on record in Baltimore was on this date: May 11, 1951 (just in case you wish for some of this FITF). Check this out:

After calculating the upper air temperature (850mb or 5,000Ft) we can transition over to the winter precipitation maps. Yes, that blue shading is for snow, likely above 2,000 Ft in elevation. Stickage will be hard to come by. But it can snow with temps reaching the upper 40s. So flakes could fly in some of Baltimore’s far western hilly ‘burbs. Sadly it does look like some showers could reach central Maryland/southern Pennsylvania in the afternoon.
