Friday April 1 2016- When it is around 80°F on April Fools Day and you hear about a Freeze Watch the natural inclination is to think it’s a hoax. But the joke will be on us as Mother Nature will be pushing a late season surge of arctic air our way, a few times over the next week. This will come in stages, but the main hit will arrive overnight Saturday, which could come with flurries or a snow shower. Then the second half of the weekend will feel much colder. Since this is such an aggressive pattern, my suggestion that the following system would arrive sooner appears to be showing up in the modeling. Thus, Opening Day for the Orioles might not only have showers to deal with, but the next surge of cold air and snow showers might not be far behind.
The main concern is for farmers where the growing season has already begun. That is why southern Pennsylvania is not highlighted. But central and southern Maryland, I’ve already highlighted the danger frost posed early this week at Swann Farms. They will be grinding their teeth over the next week, starting on Saturday night.
Snapshot: Overnight Saturday/Sunday Early Morning
Don’t expect stickage, but snow showers or flurries are possible.

Freezing Sunday Morning?
Even near the Chesapeake Bay may not be protected due to the strong winds. Extreme Southern Maryland might escape it.
