Wednesday March 16 – Rapid changes are expected today and the next few days, but what else should be expected in March. There is a Dense Fog Advisory this morning in parts of Maryland from Carroll County westward until 8 AM, and southern Pennsylvania until 10 AM. But patchy fog is scattered around Baltimore and the Eastern Shore where a few minor school delays are in place. This will erode away as a warm front moves in this morning with a band of rain showers. This afternoon, another line of rain with a cold front will bring in the chance of isolated thundershowers. At least we will get close to 70°F. Then we set up with a colder trend for the weekend and yes the chance for some snow on Sunday.
First, here is a look at the expected rain today. The best time for showers and thunder in metro Baltimore/Washington between 2 PM and 4 PM. Southern Maryland more likely this evening.

Colder Weekend/Chance For Snow
I know snow takes the headline, but it is only a chance. Also, if you remember back to Friday March 4, it fell overnight and was below freezing, but stickage was everywhere but the roads. With that said, the chance of snow all depends on the track of the next southern storm. Let’s start with the most aggressive display on the Canadian Model. This shows the coastal stronger and closer to the coast, but light snow during Sunday afternoon and night will fall with temps just above freezing. So it does not look like a road issue. Just ambience on the first day of Spring.

Support: Comes from the European Model
Disagreement?
The GFS Model shows the storm farther out east in the Atlantic. However, there has been an error in this model with the past few systems. The verification has been farther north than shown. If that is the case, then this track below would end up closer to the coast and more in line with the other models.
Repeat: If we get snow, it would be Sunday afternoon and overnight, but likely it will not stick on the roads. Still something to watch. Then another quick warm up during next week in time for some school Spring Breaks.
