Thoughts Snow And Cold Next Week

Thoughts Snow And Cold Next Week

February 6 – The groundhog was wrong! Winter will be fighting back next week with a strong arctic surge and there will be snow with it.  The first thing I want to say is that there will be a lot of energy in the atmosphere but it is not eel organized. But as one system races off the coast, and a clipper fades in the Great Lakes, there will be a weakness in the atmosphere overhead that will fill in with snow. In fact, I have a new way to measure snow that I will show below.

The main idea is the time frame late Monday through Wednesday.  I see rain changing to snow as the system evolves overhead. Literally!  Arctic air will build as a trough in the jet steam settles over the Eastern US. Watch as it grows colder during the week. Then see the scattered upper level energy and surface maps below. The main snow event will be Tuesday, and there will be enough to shovel. But I will not give any potential snow amounts until tomorrow (Sunday= 48 hours away).

Vorticity: Upper Level Energy

This is the same measuring level that I’ve showed before for our snow events. The vorticity is like a spin aloft, that can help rising air and developing precipitation. There will be pulses of energy most of the week, but not well organized

  • 36 Inches – Drift Stick $11.25/each

We have the classic flake, Maryland,

but also Orange/Black and Purple/Black to support your favorite team.

The easiest way to do this is check out the Facebook Page for Signs By Tomorrow – Timonium and look for the contact info there.

I’d love to know what you think.

As for that snow..

The GFS Model Shows evolution of snow, starting as rain on Monday afternoon/evening. There will be a lingering wrinkle in the atmosphere that will help to keep snow falling while a few areas of Low Pressure try to form and move off of the coast.

You might see snow on your local forecast app spread over a few days. Mix Monday to snow showers Thursday. But The main event will be on Tuesday for us.
