Winter Weather Advisory Friday: Snow Backing West

Winter Weather Advisory Friday: Snow Backing West

Screen Shot2016-02-04 15_37_54February 4- Yesterday we didn’t get the record warmth, the rain lingered longer, and clouds held on today.

UPDATE: Advisory now includes Baltimore and Washington. See the new radar simulation and notes here

That is all connected to the slowing down of the front, which has stalled along the southeast. The next wave of Low Pressure will ride up the coast, but now closer with some accumulating snow. It will start as rain, but turn to snow overnight. That is why there is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect: Includes Southern Maryland and much of Delmarva for 1 to 3 inches of snow. But the model forecasts are on the lower end of that….

Keep in mind, we just had over 2 feet of snow melt in a week. The ground is warm, so some flakes will be wasted chilling the ground… but falling overnight will help.

The trend has backed the precipitation farther west, to now include the Baltimore metro area. Check out this simulated radar.. only until early morning. But you can see the transition from rain to snow developing and building east. See notes below… I will have a full report this evening.

Notes:

  • Please keep in mind that this is NOT a repeat of our blizzard.
  • This will develop overnight into morning.
  • Ground temps are warm, air temps will be marginal.
  • There will be wasted flakes to melting.
  • The biggest issue will likely be in the Advisory area, but I want to extend the potential for a dusting to an inch in metro Baltimore as well..

The snow threat will be greatest in southern Maryland and The Eastern Shore at daybreak.
