SNowHomeJanuary 22- The Blizzard of 2016 is living up to all expectations. You know the expression ‘a blanket of snow’? I thick this is more like a mattress and the box spring. Many heard a rumble with thundersnow around 6 AM in central Maryland. Overnight, snow has been falling at rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour. Winds have been averaging 20 to 40 mph, and well over 1 foot has been measured. This photo on my back deck is 16 inches just before sunrise. Mind you, I only had 3 inches at 11PM.  The thing is, we could easily see another foot on top of this as the storm nearly stalls and pivots. See more info below, but this will be brief as I need to race outside for my initial attempt to clear my snow off the driveway, etc.

How much snow do you have?

Due to blowing and drifting, it might vary across your property. Try taking the average of three different measurements spread out.  As of 7 AM, Baltimore’s BWI reported 12.4″. Another 7 inches will place this in the top 10. But I think we have sights for top 5 by the end of the event Sunday morning. See the latest snow totals from National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington at this link or at the bottom of this post.

How Much More?

The Blizzard Warning and State of Emergency are hard to question already. Now consider that this storm will nearly stall, and pivot the back edge of the heavy snow. So even where sleet has been mixing in near I-95, it will go back to snow. Places near the beaches where it is raining will go back to snow.  Here is the mid level energy showing how this will happen. Simulated Radar below.
