The warm and rather humid air (for December) feels like it will produce rain any minute. But we are waiting for the old front as a trigger, and that is still slated to arrive later in the day. What might be more impressive is that the cold air will not arrive with the rain, and by midnight, temperatures will remain in the upper 60s, more than 20 degrees above a normal December 14th afternoon high. As for the rain, I hesitate to say evening, but sunset is 4:44 PM, and the timing will be after that in metro Baltimore. Between 5 and 7PM the rush hour ride home could get a little sloppy (rain not snow). We will watch the line develop in the western Maryland mountains between 2 and 3 PM then march east. There may be some rumbles of thunder and a brief wind driven downpour, but much of the energy from this storm will weaken when it arrives. The warm air however will stay through midnight.

Temperatures will reamin mild, but take a more dramatic drop after the next storm on Thursday. Next weekend will be actually colder than average, but only for a couple of days before another surge of heat prior to Christmas.
