Chesapeake Bay Bridge FogSomething special happened on Sunday December 6 and it was captured from the air. The warm air and light wind over cooler water helped produced a thick blanket of fog over the Chesapeake Bay, and here is the Bay Bridge doing it’s best impression of the Golden Gate. That was the message I got from Joe Fox, who took to flight and shared these photos. He might have felt nostalgic for San Francisco and his days in Monterey, CA.  But when he asked me if I wanted to see more, I said please! I knew I had to share.

The air temperature reached the mid 50s, but the dew point was close to the water temperature by the Bay Bridge at 42°F. So when it cooled down overnight with enough moisture in the air, the water vapor saturated, right over the water. Light wind allowed the cloud to spread nearby, which is why many experienced a gloomy start to the day. You may have noticed some extra haze in the air. Even Cecil County MD put out a special statement about the pollution trapped under the inversion. But it was close to the surface. This is what Joe had to say about his flight to get photos in Philadelphia and New York.

According to Joe:

“These shots were taken at around 11:30am, from 1,500 feet, and the fog probably cleared 15 minutes later. There was a little bit of a cloud bank remaining (aloft, not on the ground) well to the east, but the only fog was over the bay. I’ve flown over the bridge hundreds of times, I don’t ever remember catching this, in light like this, I was so glad I had my camera with me! “

Holiday Spirit Giveback: Faith in the Flakes Christmas Shirts

ChristmasFlakeMy boys and I are rocking our shirts from last year and believe we will see snow this month. It might be hard to imagine with this stretch of rain. We want to spread the joy in a new way. Among the new styles, we have holiday or Christmas colors, and waiting for ours to be printed. We thought it would be great if families would wear these together to open gifts under their trees. In appreciation for your support, we will be using 20% of the proceeds of these holiday shirts to purchase winter coats for kids and donating them before Christmas. The collections from this design will be added up through Dec 21 (official start of winter).

We know Hanukah is this weekend, and there are other holidays you may celebrate. This is the most universal.

Will you join our family with your family?
