17 Surprise Morning Rainbow Photos Today

This morning was supposed to be all about the sky show pre dawn of the moon and planets in the eastern sky. I was so focused on that, and the storms expected this afternoon, I overlooked the band of showers that briefly passed through central Maryland. That may have blocked the space view, but just after sunrise the timing was right to bring a different sky show. The highlight was a double rainbow that many got to see, thanks to the very low sun angle. Some of the colors were quite vivid in the picture, so you can only imagine how bright they were in real life. You must see this photo gallery

Below is a collection completing the set of 16. I had many more, but this was all I could fit, and thanks to all that contributed. Note that each individual sees their own rainbow, based on the sunlight refracting at the proper angle to your eyes. So this was not a giant single image, but many spread across the bay area from near Annapolis to Cecil County.

The big winner was Havre de Grace. These first two photos are courtesy of AGH Photography. I wanted to start with these because they were lucky enough to see both the rainbow after sunrise, and the celestial sky show before sunrise. These are both at the same location. The second photo of the moon with Jupiter and Venus framed at the Concord Point Lighthouse.
