Bermuda Bracing For Hurricane Joaquin: Warning

Bermuda Bracing For Hurricane Joaquin: Warning

Screen Shot2015-10-04 07_51_37Hurricane Joaquin reported as a Category 3 storm in the 8 AM Sunday update from the National Hurricane Center. We are tracking the storm and the improving conditions for Ocean City in this post.  The latest hurricane winds are down to 115 mph, and it is moving to the northeast at 21 mph. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Bermuda is going to be very close to the island. The storm has a trend to push east of models, and that will put the storm in the path, or on the stronger side as it passes by. Hurricane force winds reach 70 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds reach 205 miles away.

Notice the dry air being pulled in from the west side, plus this storm is passing over cooler water. So Joaquin is on a downward trend, but rain up to 5 inches, storm surge and high waves will beat up Bermuda all day, but pull away tomorrow. See more info and images below.

We dodged a bullet in the Mid Atlantic. Epic rain and flooding in North Carolina fell with 10 to 15 inches of rain in and around Charleston. The peak winds of 155 mph in Hurricane Joaquin was as it pulled away from The Bahamas. The 20 foot waves and shoreline winds in Ocean City gusting to 50 mph was not even pat of the Hurricane.

Waves For Ocean City

The 20 Foot measurement offshore on Saturday seemed to be the worst. But back up to 17 feet this morning. High swells will continue today even as winds decrease. This is due to the closest pass and push from the water created from Joaquin days away.
