Tornado Video Outside Baltimore, Waterspout Off Assateague Island

Turbulent weather roared through on Saturday with periods of heavy rain and some flooding. The threat for severe storms was low, but there were some loud boomers that came along with the billowing clouds. The strongest storms did fit the forecast, falling over southern Maryland.  There was one Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Serive in Worcester County, just inland from the beaches early in the afternoon between 1:45 pm and 2:15 PM. That did produce a funnel cloud near Assateague Island. But what rolled through the east side of Baltimore in the evening was not expected.

This video below from Oscar VS Murphy shows the brief touchdown. I had to  edited it for language to share. The commentary is great! From his public post:

The bet part about this, Oscar pulled over on the shoulder to get the video. I can’t stress how important and rare that is these days. Thanks man and glad you are safe.

This is in Dundalk, Maryland on the southeast side of the Baltimore Beltway.  Many funnel clouds don’t touchdown or do so briefly. It looks like Oscar was in the right place at the right time capturing the few seconds this storm did its thing. While I did not get a precise time, there is another photo nearby labeled 6:15 PM. See that below.

Doppler Radar:

I posted this image online from the surge of storms in the evening. I was in White Marsh/Rosedale just east of Overlea on this map at the time. The rain was intense with an abrupt cut off. This was about two hours after the back edge of the main rain band moved east, and this was one last burst with the larger storm system departing.
