A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for central Baltimore City and County until 6 PM. This includes:

CLIFTON PARK…COCKEYSVILLE…UNION SQUARE…PIKESVILLE… GUILFORD…GWYNNS FALLS…HOWARD PARK…ROLAND PARK…FALLSTAFF… CATONSVILLE…MAYS CHAPEL…LOCHEARN…WOODLAWN… LUTHERVILLE-TIMONIUM…TIMONIUM…TOWSON…MILFORD MILL… HAMPTON…RANDALLSTOWN AND CARROLL

Screen Shot2015-07-29 14_52_12Storms erupted over central Maryland this afternoon and they have been slow movers. Cloud tops pushing over 30,000 Ft high and rain rates surpassing 1″/Hr in some cells.  This development explains why our region was NOT included in the heat advisories (compare below), I believe we can thank a subtle breeze from the Chesapeake Bay. But there is not much to the breeze, just enough to trigger these storms and hold temps down. Otherwise, these ‘air mass’ thunderstorms do not have much movement aloft. So they sit or drift, until the run out of energy and fall apart.

 

Here is the HRRR Model Simulated Radar product showing just that. In short, the Orioles game should be OK this evening as the storms are expected to run their course and settle down by 6 PM
