6 PM Update: It’s been pouring! A full drenching along a line that has pumped heavy rain from northern Virginia past Washington Harbor to southern Maryland with local flooding. This steady line of heavy rain is called ‘training’ as the cells ride over the same area like on a track. Not to be cute, but we used to refer to this as the D-Train, for deluge. Doppler Radar estimation of over 2 inches this afternoon between Oakton and Alexandria Virginia to Clinton Maryland. There is a little more in the pipeline. So to help locals plan, here is the short range, high resolution HRRR Model simulation showing how the next few hours should play out. Some of this rain will expand across parts of central Maryland and the Eastern Shore as well. Next I will have an update on more region wide rain expected for Thursday.
