The day, the week, and the month all set records for rainfall. Too much has fallen with trouble draining and it just piled up. The Doppler Estimated Rainfall map here proves it didn’t do it justice as Baltimore’s BWI recorded 3.11″ of rain Saturday. That broke a 132 year old daily record and added to the monthly total. With 13.09″ at BWI this month, it is the wettest June and 4th wettest month. Just for fun, ‘if’ that was snow, a standard 10:1 ratio would have made this 31 inches Saturday and 130 inches for the month (more than Boston got this past winter). But to be honest, 32F or colder air can not support this much moisture, so it couldn’t happen. Sorry 😉
Once again the hardest hit area was northeast of Baltimore City. I have four examples this month of the same general area further supporting my Atmospheric Memory Theory (I’ll compile in my monthly wrap up). Many are waiving the white flag and crying ‘uncle’. Below is a collection of 27 flood photos sent in to honor the 27th of June event across central Maryland. Thanks to all that shared. I can’t say this enough: Six inches of moving water can pick up a person. 10 to 12 inches can move a car. Turn around, don’t drown! But in some cases, the water catches people off guard.
