The complex that erupted last night in the Midwest has settled down a little, but the Low Pressure circulation is still prevalent. Even though we have a cloudy sky and temperatures are not too hot, there is still enough energy for this system to flare up again later this afternoon and evening. First and foremost it is Lightning Awareness Week and any storm, especially without a warning, can strike with deadly force. The latest radar simulation shows the Low Pressure Center passing through central Maryland in a similar fashion as the remnant core of Bill did last weekend. There may be two rounds of thunderstorms to track: 1) This evening between 6 to 9 PM ahead of the Low, 2) close to midnight on the back side wrapping behind the Low passing over the Delmarva. Again, not the same set up, but atmospheric memory showing itself. This pushes more storms closer to Baltimore than expected earlier. The activity will last past midnight. Pockets of heavy rain can produce some flash flooding as well. See the HRRR Model and severe risk maps below. Slight chance storms erupt with damaging wind, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
